India to Fence Entire Indo-Myanmar Border, Ending Free Movement Regime

The Union government declared the end of the free movement regime (FMR) with Myanmar, announcing plans to fence the entire 1,643 km long Indo-Myanmar border. Home Minister Amit Shah stated this measure aims to bolster border security and curb insurgencies and illicit activities. The move follows assessments suggesting it will deter smuggling and insurgent incursions.
